Vincent wants to sea will be in selected cinemas around Australia from March 15th.

Riding high on the crest of critical success and a smash hit at the German box office, Vincent Wants To Sea is the recent recipient of Best Film and Best Actor Awards at the 2011 German Film Awards, as well as a resounding audience favourite at last year’s German Film Festival.

Vincent Wants To Sea is “a big, tragicomic cinematic experience” from wunderkind scriptwriter/actor Florian David Fitz (Men In The City) about a determined young man with a self-proclaimed ‘clown in his head’ who speaks his mind and gets him into a colourful world of trouble. Refusing to be defined by his Tourettes Syndrome, Vincent embraces the abundant absurdity of his newfound friendship with anorexic colleague Marie (Karoline Herfurth, The Reader) and obsessive-compulsive roommate Alex (Johannes Allmayer) to joyfully escape the confines of their otherwise soul destroying mental health clinic.

Buoyed by the opportunity to fulfil a wish and finally scatter his mother’s ashes to the sea, the mischievous trio steals a doctor’s car and set off on a madcap journey to the Italian coast.
Pursued by his blustering father (Heino Ferch, Downfall) and his uptight therapist, Vincent’s heartfelt race to freedom is an adventure fraught with both calamity and charm.

We’ve been turning around the AFL Grand Final DVD over night since 2003. We also produce the NRL Grand Final in the same time frame and the full weekend of races of the Bathurst 1000 by the Tuesday after the last race.
Promo Scape’s high quality turn around is made possible by recording the game direct to hard drive, capturing the footage directly into the edit suites so they have immediate access to the media.
At half time, the pre match and first two quarters of the AFL are edited. As soon as the 2011 premiers are crowned, the remainder of the match and presentations are edited.
Audio commentary from Channel 10, 3AW, Triple M and SEN are synced with the edit. DVD supports multiple audio streams so viewers will be able to choose which commentary they listen to. All are included on the disc and viewers can switch from one to the other at any time.
Three different menus have been designed for every possible outcome – Collingwood premiers, Geelong premiers or a draw just like last year. As soon as the final siren sounds menu pages will be created with the match stats.
Promo Scape is able to produce a superior, high quality multi pass encode of the video for DVD so quickly by using up to 64 central processing units (CPUs), which is essentially 64 computers at once.
We then do it all again on Sunday night for the NRL Grand Final.

Update… 12/10/11 We have completed production of the Blu-ray Grand Final 2011. This includes all features of the DVD with additional commentary from KRock. We were unable to include KRock on the DVD due to time constraints on overnight turnaround. Encoded at over 30mbit/sec average in AVC from the TEN HDCAM masters in 1920×1080 50i, (P not supported by BD format in 25fps in 1080) it looks much better than the HD transmission on One HD or even Foxtel and their nice 15mbit/sec mpeg4. In fact the encoded result looks as good as the HDCAM master.

Made in HD so that it is future proofed for use on Blu-ray.

These commercials are a good example of how we can make great TV commercials with static imagery only.

Project overview

The opportunity to work on Picnic at Hanging Rock came along in December 2009 shortly after we purchased our CINEMA CRAFT® HD Encoder (CC-HDe). It was a great opportunity to showcase not only a classic Australian film on Blu-ray, but to make it look as good as the restored HD master.

Side-by-side comparison of master and encode are virtually identical, if not better on the encode, with a slight noise reduction helping reduce excessive film grain in parts. An average bit rate of 32mbit/sec AVC has produced outstanding results.

As part of the digital restoration the feature, audio had also been remastered with 5.1 surround sound, so we of course opted for the best audio on Blu-ray and encoded to Dolby® TrueHD.

The menu design was developed by cutting a clip of audio and a range of shots from the film, and then editing these into a footage base that plays as part of the main menu. A treatment was added to the base to match the soft purple tint that completes an overall ethereal look. The Blu-ray pop-up menus integrated seamlessly, capturing the dreamlike blend of elegance and beauty with a sense of the unnerving and the mysterious.
